Line demister is the perfect solution to purify the water droplets in the steam obtained from the steam boiler. The use of quality steam means energy saving.


To explain in detail, it is not possible to obtain 100% dry steam in steam boilers and during the transport of steam. Water droplets from the boiler surfaces can be transported to the pipeline. Due to turbulence and fluctuations, water droplets and steam will be dragged into the system and a mixture of water droplets and steam will form in the pipelines. At the same time, due to the heat losses from the pipelines, water droplets will form due to condensation in the steam.


In the contact of the water fed to the steam boiler with the steam, water up to 5% of the mass will be formed. Since 95% of the steam formed in the steam boiler contains 95% steam and 5% water, the dryness of the steam obtained from the boiler will be 95%. At the point of steam consumption, the degree of dryness of the steam decreases. As a solution to this situation, the line demister to be placed at the consumption point will increase the steam dryness rate and decrease the steam consumption.

What is Hat Demister (Steamdam)?

Our system that separates the water droplets carried in the steam is called HAT DEMISTER (STEAMDAM). It is designed to give dry and clean steam.

It is also defined as steam separator or water dam.

Since 95% of the steam formed in the steam boiler contains 95% steam and 5% water, the dryness of the steam obtained from the boiler is 95%. At the point of steam consumption, the degree of steam dryness decreases even more. As a solution to this situation, the HAT DEMISTER (STEAMDAM) to be placed at the consumption point will increase the steam dryness rate and provide a decrease in steam consumption.

STEAMDAM has different types according to connection types.

There are STEAMDAM PN 16 and PN 40 types according to the pressure used. PN 16 provides maximum efficiency at 16 bar pressure and PN 40 provides maximum efficiency at 40 bar pressure.

There are also flanged and welding neck connection types.

When selecting a STEAMDAM, it is important to consider all factors that may affect its performance in order to obtain the best results, rather than choosing based on size compatibility with existing pipes. It should always be checked whether the pressure loss and flow rate range are within acceptable limits. When making the selection, the flow rate and pressure of the steam used in the system are calculated and included in the installation.

What Does Hat Demister (Steamdam) Do and Where Is It Used?

Another question that is as important as the question of what is Hat DEMISTER (STEAMDAM) is the question of what it does. STEAMDAM is designed to provide 99.7% dryness of the vapour in the flow.

In order to understand the function of the HAT DEMISTER (STEAMDAM), it is first necessary to know what aqueous steam is.

Hydrous steam is steam containing water, which is among the issues of concern in the steam system. Steam produced in a boiler designed to produce saturated steam is inherently wet. Steam boilers produce steam with a dryness rate between 95 percent and 98 percent. There is always a certain heat loss in the distribution pipe and the steam condenses. Condensed water remains in the pipe and causes ramming in the installation.

Watery steam causes serious damage to the installation and machines using steam. The steam is tried to be trapped in the steam installation with the condensstop placed in the steam installation, but it does not cope with the water droplets suspended in the steam. STEAMDAM is placed in the steam and pipelines to remove these water droplets and separates the water droplets from the steam.

How is the installation method?

Hat DEMISTER (STEAMDAM) is very easy to install and is as simple as a valve installation.

There are mounting types according to the model.

Installation on the main steam collector: It is made with KV-1 model.

STEAMDAM KV-1 model is installed before the valve when the steam from the steam boiler enters the main steam collector.

If there is a steam meter in the system and between the boiler and the main steam collector, STEAMDAM is installed before the steam meter, leaving a distance of 3 times the hat diameter.

Steam consumption point installation: It is made with KV-2 model.

The hat from the main steam distribution collector has reached the steam consumption point. STEAMDAM KV-2 model is installed before the control valves and shut-off valves at the steam consumption point.

Special sizes are manufactured for ease of installation under the conditions required for the system.

Liquid flow direction is also important for correct installation.

Differences Between Hat Demister (Steamdam) and Steam Separator?

Due to its design, the steam dryness rate is 5 - 8% higher than the separator thanks to the mesh inside the STEAMDAM.

Since the dryness rate is higher, valve maintenance and machine maintenance are minimised.

It reduces the steam consumption rates even more thanks to dryness.

Thanks to dry steam, there is no need to operate the boiler at higher pressure in the boiler.
